We moved in to a house at Four Acres when they were new built, that was 1952. I have tried everywhere to find photos of the hospital, but had no luck so far.
Note:- My e-mail address is now larrywaters@btinternet.com.Laurence Watersnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5882485170815562548.post-17179532122350278062021-01-25T15:55:55.160+00:002021-01-25T15:55:55.160+00:00Strange comment the last one!
Anyway I am writing...Strange comment the last one!
Anyway I am writing up my family history and my now deceased Grandmother recalls being sent to the the East Malling fever hospital (the Rocks) for six weeks with Scarlet Fever around 1913. She recalled drinking milk and bovril for the time she was there as her throat was too sore s to swallow. She also remembers the nurses coming round and singing hymns including The church is our foundation.' The hardest thing was not being able to see her parents for six weeks except through a window. Many children didn't survive but she did, returning home with ringworm and lifelong ear problems. The children were picked up by a Fever van that toured the streets and afterwards people's houses were fumigated and they had to scrub them through with carbolic and burn the child's clothes and bedding or take it up to the hospital to be harshly disinfected. According to my grandma it was a very frightening experience being taken away in the cart as you didn't know if you'd ever return home. . The neighbours were the Mercer Family . Also there were the Eggetts ,Hunts, Mrs Randall.and many more who,s names I have forgotten.I used to walk to Clare park School which seemed a long way at the time.I remember Mr &Mrs Robins who had the corner shop by the railway bridge they eventually moved to take over the Woodman Pub.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5882485170815562548.post-30239794669611424962010-10-09T21:05:30.120+00:002010-10-09T21:05:30.120+00:00Sorry my email is actually

Alone the lane towards Easterfields was another building ,which my uncle lived in however I don,t know what purpose this building originally had been built for.
If you need details about residents or any other information mail
Spoulter47@gmail.com.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5882485170815562548.post-46471587123208978992008-03-18T08:50:00.000+00:002008-03-18T08:50:00.000+00:00Many thanks for your comments, very interesting. Thanks Godfrey.

"I was born at Hillview, The Rocks, in 1929 (not called Rocks Road in those days), and can confirm that the hospital was named East Malling Isolation Hospital. Many of my child contemporaries spent time there, usually with the common condition of Scarlet Fever. A house stood at the side of the entrance way, which was the home of the ambulance driver."DJMhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01642439183068663777noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5882485170815562548.post-75674916918288191632008-03-16T22:40:00.000+00:002008-03-16T22:40:00.000+00:00RE: The east malling hospital.I had an email from ...RE: The east malling hospital.

I had an email from a guy who was born on the rocks road in 1929
He tells me that it was for scarlet fever and diphtheria, many children who did go in , never came out.
It was a corrugated iron and wooden building and just behind it there was a council rubbish tip.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5882485170815562548.post-60335773837311528942008-03-14T17:51:00.000+00:002008-03-14T17:51:00.000+00:00Hi In response to your letter concerning East Mal...Hi
In response to your letter concerning East Malling Hospital of Infectious Diseases, I used to live their, "back in 1951" when the Hospital was converted into living accommodation. We moved out when I was 6 years old (that would be about 1955)
I remember some of it well our, bathroom was the morgue and it had a brick slab in the middle of the room, and a large glass window in the roof above it, my parents bedroom was the ambulance garage'
I remember the layout of the hospital buildings, also their was a large circular green with oak trees which we used to climb. I have some photos of my parents and my brothers in the back garden but none of the front of the buildings,
I too have tried to gain more about this but to no avail.
Kind Regards Paula MontandonAnonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13989699414059063998noreply@blogger.com
